MEMBERS SOUGHT FOR COLONIAL GARDEN CLUB
County Historical Society Forms New Group

CAMDEN, N.J. -- The Camden County Historical Society is seeking members for a new group focused on the practice, lore and history of colonial gardening.

The immediate task to be tackled by the new group is the refurbishment

Recreating an authentic eighteenth-century herb garden is the first task of the group.
and maintenance of the colonial herb garden at Pomona Hall, the eighteenth-century mansion that is part of the Society's museum and library complex on the eastern edge of the city, just outside Collingswood.

Gardening history
The group, to be called the Mary Cooper Gardeners after the former mistress of the grounds of Pomona Hall, will also research the history and use of herbs in colonial South Jersey, help plan new landscaping projects for the Society's grounds, create seasonal decorations for Pomona Hall using natural, traditional materials, and prepare faux foodstuffs to bring the Society's open-hearth kitchen to life.

Key Qualification: Enthusiasm
No special skills or experience are required.

Rather, the Society is looking for volunteers who are as enthusiastic to learn about colonial gardening and homekeeping as they are to help recreate history in as authentic and interesting a way as possible.
