CAMDEN, N.J. -- Displaying the Camden County Historical Society's collection of Old Camden Cemetery maps above are (left to right) Len Irwin, curator of maps; Frank Caruso, an intern and Rutgers Museum Studies student who is researching the cemetery; and Amy Snyder, a Society librarian with a special interest in historic cemeteries. In 1937 and 1938 the Works Progress Administration (WPA) conducted a project to map the burial plots of all county cemeteries. The card files of that Historic Graves Survey now fill a row of cabinets in the Society's library (lower left). Ms. Snyder explained that the Society has copies of Old Camden's interment books, burial records and plot and lot ownership documents as well as the WPA files. "Our files are very extensive," she said. Mr. Irwin noted that Old Camden is "very well" documented with multiple maps that can be cross referenced to each other. He also noted that there is "no question" that when the eight-acre cemetery closed, it was "quite full."
